October 10, 2016

Today is Thanksgiving in Canada.  We had no excursion booked since we were in Mykonos in 2014.  There was no need to set an alarm.  The Equinox (2580 passengers) was docked, but there were two other ships anchored in the harbour, Mein Schiff-3 (2506 passengers) and Thomson Dream (1500 passengers).  This morning was sunny and 19 C with a light wind.
We took the shuttle bus to the “Old Port”, it was about ten minutes.  We strolled along the narrow passages and streets of the Clora Town, the main village of Mykonos.  We found the six windmills and took a look inside the entry by donation only windmill that just had a main floor and loft.  The loft housed the windmill mechanism, once used to turn the grind stone below to grind the grain to make flour.  We found the little Venice area with restaurants that looked out onto the harbour from cantilevered balconies.  There were also lots of shops selling souvenirs, electronics, shoes, handbags, jewelry and clothing.  We browsed in a few of the clothing stores and saw a blue Greek cotton crinkle cotton dress.  At one intersection with a small square there was a crowd of people watching a pelican preening itself.  It was several streets from the water and did not seem to mind the audience.  We even found a beach and tested the water which would be about 18 C and clear.  Swimmers were not cringing as they entered the water.  After 2 ½ hours of wandering we stopped at a restaurant, Kadena, that faced the marina of the inner harbour. The waiter used a small Ipad to take our order. We ordered a Mythos beer and a cold cappuccino. The Mythos beer bottle had a cap top that had a pull tab to remove the cap.   We also ordered a baked feta cheese appetizer.  It was sooo good.  There was a little sautéed green pepper, red onion and sliced tomato topped with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese and drizzled with olive oil then baked.  The one appetizer was enough for the two of us.  When the waiter presented our bill he also brought us a complimentary shot of limoncello. When we finished, we made the short walk to the Seabus boat to go back to the pier where the ship was docked.  It took less than 15 minutes.  The predicted high for today was 23 C but when we returned to the ship it was 29 C and sunny. We relaxed for the afternoon, stopping at the Café al Bacio a couple of times.
We went to Deck 5’s promenade to watch the ship sail out of the harbour.  As the ship swung around to leave the harbour another ship, Celestyal Nefeli (1074 passengers,) was approaching took the berth that our ship had just vacated.
Pat and Frank decided not to dine in the dining room this evening.  We enjoyed our dinner with Brendene and Brian.  The Appetizers chosen were Shrimp Cocktail and Scallop and Shrimp Salad.  The entrées were Snapper fillet on chickpeas and Clam, Mussel, Scallop and Lobster on wide noodles with a light seafood sauce.  The dessert selection was Crème Brulé and Ricotta cheesecake.
Tonight’s show featured entertainers, David Schofield (pianist) and Greg London (singer) plus the production cast singer, Taty.  Greg received two encores.

Tomorrow’s destination is Athens, Greece. The distance to its port city of Piraeus is 95 nautical miles from Mykonos.

Total distance today is 6.37 miles.
